Smokehouse was originally formed in the mid 90's. Sam Perez and Michael Hurtado were introduced to each other from mutual acquaintances, and the local music scene would never be the same. After trial and error, the main lineup consisted of Sam Perez (vocals) Michael Hurtado (guitar/songwriter) Rene Subiladea (guitar) John Mitchell (bass) and Jason Thompson (drums). This strong 5 piece rock based blues act hit the local scene steadily building a loyal following of fans. The next step was one that would give all involved a great sense of pride and accomplishment when the recording sessions of the debut album entitled "Waiting on Monday" began in Fort Worth, TX. The CD included 9 original songs plus a "hidden track" fronted by the late great blues legend Robert Ealey titled"Tough to Die". With the rigorous schedule of live performances and creative differences, the line-up became stressed and changes were inevitable. Rene would be the first to leave being quickly replaced by Texan native John Stevens. The shows continued on for some time, yet more changes were on the horizon. In 1998, lead vocalist Sam Perez made the decision to leave the band in order to start fresh with his new venture he would call "The Fender Benders". All four remaining members carried on and hired a new singer that would prove to be the last gasp to hold things together as before. Agreeing that everyone needed a break, the band went their separate ways. Some members would change life directions and some would continue on with other bands. Sam would continue on with his "Fender Benders". Years passed and all members would keep in touch as they had formed a bond that would last a lifetime. As fate would have it, Sam and Michael's paths were about to cross once again. In early 2007, Sam contacted Michael needing a guitarist to fill in at the last minute as his regular guitarist was unable to play a two man acoustic show previously scheduled. It was as if time had stood still, as Michael and Sam took the stage and gave the audience what they had been waiting for. Since then, Michael and Sam have continued to play acoustic shows, enjoying the simplicity of the shows and concentrating on the music they have written together. Audiences have given the scaled down version of Smokehouse rave reviews time & time again. Stay tuned, as the next installment of original music by Sam & Michael is underway...............
